2023

The case study on Mad City MAMBA’s outlines their approach to improving social media engagement and leveraging the Meta platform effectively. This AAU nonprofit basketball team based in Madison, WI, combines sports with educational programs to foster the well-being of 4th to 12th graders.

Summary

Initially, Mad City MAMBA’s struggled with low engagement on social media, particularly on Meta, and had a limited digital footprint restricted to Instagram. This restricted their ability to effectively engage their existing audience and expand their community online.

Challenge

The main challenges included inadequate audience engagement, limited utilization of social media tools, and restricted online growth. Despite a loyal following, interactions on existing social media were minimal, and the team was not making full use of the available features on Meta. Additionally, their efforts were confined to Instagram, which limited their reach and potential to grow an online community.

Solutions

To address these issues, a comprehensive audit of their existing social media presence was conducted, followed by the development of a detailed marketing strategy that included establishing a Facebook page and consistent content across platforms. We also created a new website to effectively navigate social media traffic and enhance overall online visibility. Templates for regular posts and a content calendar were created to ensure consistent engagement with the audience. By expanding the program to include girls and extending age coverage to 11th and 12th graders, the organization broadened its impact and inclusivity.

These strategic changes resulted in a 112% increase in followers and a 50% rise in engagement, demonstrating the effectiveness of a cohesive and well-planned social media strategy coupled with a robust website to channel online traffic.
